Valencia oranges are among the most widely cultivated orange varieties in the world, and are particularly preferred in the juice industry. This late-ripening variety is typically harvested in spring and summer, thus meeting the demand for fresh oranges after the Washington Navel season ends. Valencia's most distinctive feature is its exceptionally juicy and aromatic texture hidden beneath its thin, smooth peel.

The flesh is light orange, soft, and very juicy. While it may occasionally contain a few seeds, this does not detract from its flavor. Although its taste profile has slightly higher acidity than Navel, this gives it a characteristic refreshing and invigorating taste. Valencia oranges, which can remain on the tree for a very long time, may undergo a "re-greening" process in the peel when harvested late; this is a completely natural process that does not affect the internal quality of the fruit.
